Ask any dog owner in Melbourne's eastern suburbs where they go on a Saturday morning and you'll hear the same answer: KCC Park. Officially known as the Knox Canine Club Park in Wantirna South, this fully fenced off-leash park has earned a reputation as one of Melbourne's best dog parks for good reason.

Whether you're a local regular or planning your first visit, this guide covers everything you need to know about KCC Dog Park — from facilities and parking to the best times to visit and what to bring.

What Is KCC Park?

KCC Park is a dedicated off-leash dog park located on Scoresby Road in Wantirna South, within the City of Knox in Melbourne's outer east. The park sits on the grounds historically associated with the Knox Canine Club, and is now one of the most popular community dog parks in the region.

The park features:

  • Fully fenced perimeter with a secure double-gate entry system
  • Separate large and small dog areas so every dog can play safely
  • Open grassed space ideal for ball throwing and free running
  • Shade trees throughout, especially in the northern section
  • Dog water stations and rubbish bins
  • Seating for owners around the perimeter

It's completely free to use and managed by Knox City Council.

Facilities at KCC Dog Park

KCC Park is well above average when it comes to facilities. Here's what you'll find:

Feature Details
Fencing Fully fenced with double-gate entry
Small dog area Yes, separately fenced enclosure
Water Dog drinking stations available
Shade Mature trees, especially in the northern section
Seating Benches around the perimeter
Parking Dedicated car park off Scoresby Road
Agility equipment Limited, but the open space is excellent for free play

The park is flat and wheelchair-accessible in most areas. Paths are unsealed but firm enough for prams and mobility devices in dry conditions.

Best Times to Visit KCC Park

KCC Park is popular. Very popular. On a sunny Saturday morning, you can expect 20 to 30 dogs at any one time. That's great for social dogs, but not ideal if yours needs space.

Here's what we've found works best:

  • Weekday mornings (9am to 11am) — quieter, usually five to ten dogs. Best for puppies and reactive dogs.
  • Weekday afternoons (2pm to 4pm) — the quietest window. Great for one-on-one training sessions.
  • Weekend mornings (7am to 9am) — busy but manageable if you arrive early. After 9am, expect a crowd.
  • Summer evenings (after 6pm) — cooler temperatures draw a steady crowd, but after the peak.

Avoid the 4pm to 6pm window on weekdays if your dog doesn't do well with lots of dogs arriving at once — that's when the after-work crowd arrives.

Getting to KCC Park

Off-Leash Rules at KCC Park

KCC Park is managed by Knox City Council. The rules are straightforward:

  • Dogs must be under effective voice control at all times while off-leash
  • Owners must clean up after their dogs — bag dispensers are available at the entrance
  • Dogs must be registered with the council and wearing their registration tag
  • Aggressive dogs must be removed immediately
  • Dogs in season (on heat) are not permitted
  • Children must be supervised at all times within the off-leash area

Fines for breaching off-leash regulations in Victoria can reach $330 for a first offence. More importantly, keeping your dog under control keeps everyone safe.

Tips for Visiting KCC Dog Park

Bring water

While there are water stations, they can sometimes be out of action. Carry at least 500ml per dog — more in summer. A collapsible bowl is a must.

Check the ground temperature

Melbourne summers can push ground temperatures well above 60°C on bitumen and even bare soil. Before heading to the park, press the back of your hand to the ground for five seconds. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for paws.

Keep leads handy

Even in the off-leash area, keep a lead on you. If a situation gets tense between dogs, being able to quickly leash yours makes everything easier to manage.

Watch for snakes in warmer months

The Knox area borders bushland, and tiger snakes and brown snakes are occasionally spotted around parks in the eastern suburbs between October and April. Stay on open ground, keep your dog in sight, and know the signs of snakebite.
